For those who are unfamiliar with the term, the foot flush is a common action used by women in public restrooms. Instead of pulling the handle down, some women flush the toilet with their foot. Most public restrooms are less than sanitary, so the foot flush keeps women from getting their hands dirty.
As usual, it made me think. Am I guilty of foot flushing when it comes to God? Many times I don’t want to get my hands dirty. I miss out on investing in people’s lives. I do just enough to clear my conscience but not enough to change a life. Have you ever been guilty of foot flushing?
Crazy Love (the book we are reading in Sunday school), chp 5 is about serving God our left overs. We think that just because we actually do what we are “supposed” to do that God should pat us on the back. Oftentimes, we get so wrapped up in our lives that we neglect to get involved in His calling on our lives. As a result, we keep our hands clean because we’ve given God the foot flush.
Yeah, in a public restroom the foot flush is ok. But when it comes to God, He wants us to get our hands dirty. Let’s make a point to go the extra mile. Let’s get a little bit of “spiritual germ-age” all over our hands as we serve God with our whole hearts.
