I’m thankful for the house that protects us day and night

I’m thankful for my children even when they fuss and fight

I’m thankful for the food that fills our pantry shelves

I’m thankful for my friends who love us all so well

For new mercies every morning and fresh chances through the day

Forgiveness for my mess-ups and grace for when I stray

God’s provision in all seasons, his guiding hand in all my ways

His winks in my direction, tender love in his great gaze

I’m thankful for the hard things that make me lean on him

And thankful for the breaking because of selfish sin

Every scar that he allowed has changed my human heart

Conformed me to his image which is the greatest part

Oh, to be like Jesus, my soul’s one great desire

Crush me, mold me, make me, whatever he requires

And no matter what may come, my heart is grateful still

Thankful that I’m chosen, guided in his will

As we meet together, with family and friends

May we always keep in mind his love that never ends

May we tell each one we meet of his forgiving, saving grace

And in everything be thankful that Jesus took our place.
