Once a month, I have the privilege of speaking at Honey Lake Cinic, a Christian recovery facility in Madison County. Each trip, I pass a house with a semi parked in the front yard, and I laugh to myself. This semi-truck has been sitting in the same place for so long, there are several trees growing through the back where it hitches to a trailer.
I imagine him telling his wife, “I’ll get around to it,” over and over for years now. In his mind, he likely desires to get around to it, and maybe one day he will, but the longer he waits, the less realistic the repair process will be.
With each passing year, I look around our own piece of land and consider all the projects I’ve wanted to complete. For nearly twenty years now, I’ve said, “I’ll get around to it.” And each time I repeat the line, it seems as if it was just yesterday, not years ago.
Last week, I tweaked my knee and I’m on light duty for a few weeks. At first, I felt irritated that I could play pickleball or stand on my feet for great lengths of time. Then I thought about my busy work “get around to it list”. No, it’s not the outside projects, but I have tons of little projects that I never have time to complete on my computer. So, these next several weeks, I plan to get caught up on all my “I’ll get around to it’s.” Busy work isn’t my favorite, but the load is already feeling lighter and the “I’m behind” pressure seems to be lifting.
How about you? Do you have any trees growing through semis in your life? Projects you have been planning to do for years and never completed, or even started? Pick one a month and get moving. Productivity is good for the soul.
I’d love to hear from you and see pictures!
