I was driving through another town this week and saw a sign: Honest Jim’s. I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. I don’t know Jim, but the adjective in front of his name makes me wonder what he’s trying to hide (no offense if you are friends with Jim). Maybe it’s silly or judgmental on my part, but shouldn’t we be able to show that we are honest by our lives? As business people or even as everyday followers of Jesus, shouldn’t the adjectives in front of our names be obvious? If we have to start labeling who we are because we want others to notice those attributes, we have a problem. Instead it should be as the expression goes, “and they will know us by our love.”
Do others know you by your love? Or do they know you by your adjective?
