Wouldn’t Trade It

Tuesday night I came home from class and David said that Carter had been unusually whiny. He would climb up in the big chair, look out the window and say “Mamamamama,” over and over again. I guess he just wanted me to come home. When I came through the door, he lit up and came running towards me. He took me by the hand and led me into his room. He got his pacifier and he climbed in his bed. He patted the bed, then climbed up and laid his head on his pillow. I knew he wanted me to join him. Usually he rocks with David at night until he falls asleep, so this was an unusual treat. I took off my jewelry and shoes and laid down beside my little boy. He held my face in his hands and I sang to him until he fell asleep. I got a little teary-eyed as I realized I’m going to wish for moments like these in a few years. As for now, though, I don’t want to miss an opportunity. I’m going to soak it up. Wouldn’t trade being a mama to this little boy for much of anything.
