Resources for Parents
Most of my blogs are about life lessons that God teaches me through my kids and other circumstances; but there are other lessons I have had to learn the hard way. The internet can be a very helpful tool, but it can also create huge struggles and temptations in the lives of our children. As parents, we need to be aware of tools, aids, and services that will enable us to protect and educate our kids. Pornography is everywhere. Cyber predators are lurking around every click. Temptation is just a site away. We need to be the lighthouse for our kids, a safe harbor for them to run to. That’s what this page is for.
As I run across additional resources, I will add them here.
Accountability Software and Filters
Covenant Eyes (monthly fee)
This is an internet monitoring site that records EVERYTHING. A weekly report is generated and sent to the an accountability partner (which could be the parent) and also to another recipient (which could be the child). Phones, tablets, and computers can all be monitored. Internet will not work unless Covenant Eyes is active once the the software has been installed. There is a monthly fee, but to me, it is absolutely worth it. Not only does it help monitor your children, but for those of us adults who struggle with internet integrity, this can be a great addition for you as well. I have this program installed on all my electronic devices. There is also a filtering option that may be beneficial as well.
K9 Web Protection (free)
This is a free filtering program that blocks certain websites from being accessed. Along with particular websites, this filter also can block certain key words and has different sensitivity ratings. This is a great tool for making sure that your children, and yourself, are maintaining internet integrity.
A great resource for parents on how to navigate social media.
